Client stories
Each issue will feature one or two success stories, stories you've shared with us about important changes you've made in your lives. Your stories are a witness to your belief in yourselves and your commitment to achieving your goals. They demonstrate your willingness to change and grow.

Sometimes those changes took place almost immediately. Other times they occurred gradually over months and years. Always they have inspired us. We thank you for allowing us to support you on your journey. We create the framework and make our balance procedures available to you. But it is you, in the co-creative process, who do the work. For this we celebrate you.

If you would like to have your story featured in an upcoming issue, please let us know.

Techniques
We will introduce you to one or several balance procedures you can do on your own to improve your overall health and well-being. Techniques have been chosen because they are simple to use, effective and timely.

Upcoming workshops
We will include workshops, which we will hold over the next few months. These workshops are also posted on our website.

Services
Only those we have experienced first-hand and which we consider to be very worthwhile will be included.

YOUR STORIES

Daily Brain Gym® Movements Make a Difference
Mark (1) was one of the first clients I worked with when I started my practice in 1996. I love telling his story since it demonstrates how one person, thanks to discipline, believing in himself and family support, was able to overcome considerable challenges and follow his dream.

Identified as an exceptional student, communication - language impaired, Mark had received remedial help throughout his school years. His teachers described him as "co-operative and responsible, pleasant and polite". What they did not know was the number of hours he spent on assignments, the stress he experienced regarding his achievement and the fact that he almost never smiled.

Regarding his oral language, Mark had difficulty following the flow of verbal ideas and was unable to answer questions. Consequently, he was not able to participate in lessons and share his ideas in class discussions. For written work he was experiencing significant difficulty in generating and organizing his ideas and understanding word meaning. By grade 8 Mark was at least two years behind in math skills. Written instructions in particular were difficult. He seemed to "shut down" when taking tests and required extra time to complete them.

Mark’s mom brought him to see me right after Christmas in grade 8. Her main concerns were the stress around test taking and that all Mark’s free time was spent on homework. She knew he would be expected to work more independently in high school and feared Mark would not be able to handle the additional workload and increased stress levels. Mark began coming for sessions on a weekly basis.

The progress Mark made in such a short time astounded us all. The following letter written by his mom, summarizes those changes:

"Water (2) and a few simple exercises have given my son a chance to be all that he can be.

Over the early primary years my son experienced many difficulties. Handwriting was a real effort for him; following instructions took tremendous focus and concentration. Assignments and simple tasks took him forever to complete. Test sent him into a state of panic. Teachers would often note or mention to us that my son was co-operative and pleasant and tried his very best; however he often became frustrated and disappointed when his marks didn’t reflect the amount of work he put into the task. Eventually our son was identified as language impaired. Even though he used the resources that were available to him, he still was feeling poorly about himself in the area of his academics. This was now beginning to effect his daily perception of himself. We tried private tutors as well as enrolled him at St. Jude’s in Kitchener for weekend assistance. These helped as well, however our son was still feeling overwhelmed and we knew that entering secondary school would cause even more stress for our son. It was taking most of his time now to complete assignments and the workload would only become heavier. His self-esteem was low and he was becoming an introvert. He tended to set high goals for himself and he had a great desire to achieve them he just needed the tools!

It was then that I noticed an ad in the Guelph Mercury for Brain Gym® with Joan Agosta. We took our son to Joan in January 1996 and completed ten sessions with her. Before they were completed we noticed drastic changes. His handwriting took half of the time that it normally would. He held his head up high and actually smiled coming home from school. What a feeling to see your son happy at school. We continued sending our son once a month or before major exams over the next year or so. Test writing and his "shut down" have been reduced.

Our son is now in grade twelve and still does his exercises prior to school each morning. It he forgets for a few days, we can see and change his attitude and his output. He agrees when we bring it to his attention, his production is so much better when he stays on track.

I think our son explained Brain Gym® best: 'I don’t feel fuzzy anymore, everything seems much clearer'.

Every opportunity I have I recommend Brain Gym® . . .I believe every child should be given the opportunity to relearn or retrain the way of learning".

Mark continues to do his Brain Gym® movements on a daily basis. Since the writing of this letter he graduated from high school with a 70% overall average. He was accepted at Carlton University, Windsor University, Fanshawe and Conestoga College. He is presently doing a law and security program, carrying a 79% average and plans on getting his B.A. in criminology. We are sure he will succeed!

Notes on the sessions:
We saw Mark on a weekly basis from mid-January to May 1996. He came for two more sessions that year, three in 1997 and one in 1998. The early sessions focused on structural corrections and included the Dennison Laterality Repatterning (3) to be done at home on a daily basis. Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques helped him to stay in a resource state during test taking and allowed him to relax. By the fourth session, Mark had experienced a major shift: his homework took less time, he was able to understand directions more easily and he came home with an 86% on a major math test! His teacher noticed that he was smiling more, that he seemed happier with himself and that he was better able to organize his thoughts.

Mark had been feeling fatigued during the day in spite of getting enough sleep. Further corrections focused on his subtle energy system, adding supplements and changing Mark’s diet to make sure he was getting all the nutrients he needed. It was also recommended that he stay away from refined sugar as much as possible.

Another major breakthrough came while doing some emotional work. Mark’s self-concept took a blow at both grades three and four. He lost his much-loved teachers two years in a row. This is when he seriously began to doubt himself and his ability to succeed. After doing the emotional clearing, I asked Mark to write about his feelings regarding the loss of his teachers. I pointed out that feelings are neither "good" nor "bad", they just are. Emotions are the language of our body. This is how our body communicates with us. Our emotions let us know what is important for us, what has been trespassed upon. Once we acknowledge the feelings, we can let go. It is the feelings that we deny which create imbalance, stress and dis-ease.

In addition, we worked on Mark’s ability to know what was best for himself and to formulate goals that were in his best interest. Changing his belief that he has to be perfect to "I love to be alive . . .learning from all my mistakes" was liberating.

Notes:
    1. Name has been changed at request of the client

    2. Water increases and balances electrical energy to the neocortex, moving it away from survival reflexes in the brain stem. It also increases oxygen amount and flow to the brain resulting in better focus and more energy.

    3. Dennison Laterality Repatterning is one of two repatterning techniques taught in the Brain Gym® Diploma course. This technique activates the neurological networks across the corpus callosum which separates the right and left hemispheres. This results in the integration of both eyes, ears and hemispheres and improves coordination of both sides of the body. For best results this repatterning technique should be done twice daily for 10 week. This is usually the time it takes to create new neurological networks in the brain.

TECHNIQUES
Dove of Peace
Stabilizing in Chaos(1)

The Earth is moving through a time of monumental changes in which energies are fluctuating at rates never experienced by humanity before. Many of these changes are chaotic in nature, and especially challenging to the emotional body. Consequently, our emotions seem to be all over the place. Whenever any system moves from one level of order to a higher level, there is a period of chaos in which perturbations are on the increase. This is now happening on Earth at all levels-atomic, molecular, biological, geological, social, economic, etc. are in states of flux or change. The Hathors offer us a technique to help our emotional body become more stable through this period of tremendous transition. This technique is in four parts. We offer the second below. For Part A, see Goodnews Oct. 2001. We will continue the exercise in future newsletters.

Self-Mastery Exercise
Part B
The next step in this Self-Mastery Exercise is to draw the prana into the pranic tube and then to circulate it through the physical body (see Diagram)
  • Step 1: As you did before, draw the prana up from the Earth into your pranic tube as you inhale. Hold the breath for just a moment and then exhale with a sigh. Focus your attention on the pranic tube.
  • Step 2: Now inhale, drawing prana down from above the head into the pranic tube. Hold the breath for a moment while you focus on the pranic tube. Exhale and sign as you shift your awareness to your entire physical body. The prana will them flow out from the pranic tube into your body by the Law of Attention (i.e., "Energy follows awareness"). Work with this until you sense a flow of energy from the pranic tube out into the physical body.

Diagram: The movement of "Celestial energy" and "Earthly energy" into the pranic tube and from there into the physical body.

When you first begin the process it may be a very subtle sensation and some areas of your body will be more sensitized to the flow of prana than others. But eventually you will have the distinct physical sensation of the prana moving out into the physical body. As your awareness becomes more subtle, you may notice the prana moving into the subtle bodies as well. Let it interpenetrate and extend outward from your actual physical body. This allows you to truly increase the Ka,(2) to intensity the pranic body.

More for combating flu symptoms and allergic responses

Many people experience flu-like symptoms at this time of the year. We would like to share with you a technique called the Spleen/Thymus Tap which we have found very effective. It can be even more effective than the Thymus Tap, which we introduced, in our last newsletter.

Clinical applications for this technique include: stimulating the immune system to effectively eliminate colds and flues We recommend doing this technique for one minute on each side at the first sign of a cold or flu. Repeat every hour until you are no longer experiencing discomfort. For less serious cases, do at least three times per day. We usually do not take any medication. However, if you are on medication, the Spleen/Thymus Tap will help you feel better much faster.

Here is how to do the spleen/thymus tap: To locate the spleen point, place one arm, straightened out at your side and with your other hand, reach around in front of your body and find the sensitive spot on your ribs just above your elbow. This is the spleen point. Relaxing your first arm, tap on the spleen point. With your other hand, use the tips of your fingers to tap on your thymus (located behind the sternum). Continue tapping for one minute.

Adding toning will increase the effectiveness of the correction. Tone Esa Mea Deo. If you can't tone out-loud, then tone silently. If you are reluctant to tone, then just say the words. If you do not want to tone for whatever reason, just do the tapping.

Note: The thymus is a gland located high in the chest behind the sternum. This gland is one of the central controls of the body's immunity system. It is part of the body's defense system which manufactures antibodies and lymphocytes.

    THOUGHTS Worth Sharing

The following story comes from "Letter of the Day" which appeared in the Guelph Mercury, February 1, 2000. The author of the letter, Madeline Bakker, wrote regarding neighborhood response to the opening of a group home for young men needing shelter in the community. The general attitude was "not in our neighborhood". She invites us to reflect on our own attitude toward troubled youth through this story.
"In the Babemba tribe of South Africa, when a person acts irresponsibly or unjustly, he is placed in the center of the village, alone and unfettered".
"All work ceases and every man, woman and child in the village gathers in a large circle around the accused individual".
"Then each person in the tribe, regardless of age, begins to talk out loud to the accused, one at a time, about all the good things the person in the center of the circle has done in his lifetime. Every incident, every experience that can be recalled with any detail and accuracy, is recounted".
"All his positive attributes, good deeds, strengths and kindnesses are recited carefully and at length. No one is permitted to fabricate, exaggerate or be facetious about his accomplishments or the positive aspects of his personality".
"At the end, the tribal circle is broken, a joyous celebration takes lace, and the person symbolically and literally is welcomed back into the tribe".
